The Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region is very well placed in the key sectors energy and environment. In this sectors the region is one of the world leaders in the fields of energy efficiency and management of natural resources. Also the use of renewable energies is broadly developed as a result of the favourable natural conditions. Excellent examples are the world largest solar power plant on one roof in Bürstadt, the Zero-litre office building in Ludwigshafen or the nationwide pilot project Low energy levels at existing buildings in Mannheim.
