Adaptive Balancing Power
Flywheel @ ETA Factory Darmstadt
The ETA-Factory at TU Darmstadt is a demonstration site for energy efficient production plants. The site is visited by globally active manufacturing companies, learning here how to increase their energy efficiency and ensuring stable operation of their plants. Currently there are about 40 industrial partners, examples are Atlas Copco, BMW, Bosch, Daimler, MTU, Rexroth, Siemens and Viessmann. Today the site utilizes the flywheel for peak shaving and load balancing. Starting in fall 2016 the site will be enabled for microgrid islanding of the whole plant utilizing the flywheel for frequency and voltage regulation.
