Jordan River Pharmaceutical Industries, established in 1999 as a part of Al Quds pharmaceuticals group, it develops and manufactures a wide range of more than 50 pharmaceutical products and exports them to more 14 countries.

In June 2021 Jordan River installed a 240 kWp rooftop solar plant targeting to cut high energy costs. System estimated to generate 389,000 kilowatt-hours of clean energy with total share of 45% of factory total electricity need and offset 233,000 kilograms of carbon emissions per year.

“Energy costs account for a high share of our operational expenses, and solar energy suggested itself as an efficient cost alternative. The capacity and expertise on how to implement solar technology is not our core competency, so we contacted the Project Development Programme as an experienced and non-commercially driven consultant,” says Rami Sabbarini, General Manager at Jordan River Pharmaceutical Industries.

Over 450 solar panels were installed over a Schletter mounting structure to cover 2,000 square meters of roof space at the facility, and to reach high profitability solar panels were connected to 4 SMA inverters and monitored by sunny portal.

Support by the German Energy Solutions Initiative

The Project Development Programme (PDP) of the German Energy Solutions Initiative has been active in Jordan since 2018 and helped to raise the awareness on solar energy and supported local businesses during project origination, technical evaluation, investment appraisal and project implementation.

“The PDP-Team is proud to have played crucial role supporting Jordan River in their solar energy transition. We extended our experience and know-how to help Jordan River achieve best quality of solar system at lowest cost thorough advising on best technical specifications then launching tendering process and guiding on offers assessment and negotiation”, as Moayad Hamaideh, PDP country representative for Jordan, explains the success of this project.
