German technology optimizes voltage regulation and grid stability in South Africa
Renewable Energy Solutions Programme
Introduction
With the successful commissioning of the first Low Voltage Regulation System (LVRSys®), A. Eberle GmbH & Co. KG, together with A. Eberle Africa (Pty) Ltd., is setting new standards for voltage stabilization, grid stability, and energy efficiency in South Africa.
The innovative solution for stable voltage regulation
To meet today’s demands, Siemens opted for the innovative LVRSys®, which ensures stable, energy-efficient, and reliable voltage regulation. Developed in Germany and tailored to the specific requirements of the African market, the system compensates for voltage fluctuations, enhances grid stability, and reduces system failures.
As a result, it guarantees the continuous and uninterrupted operation of critical infrastructures.
The LVRSys® boasts an exceptionally high efficiency of up to 99.8 percent, making it a particularly energy-efficient and environmentally friendly solution. Additionally, it is user-friendly and requires minimal maintenance: a functional check is only necessary every five years.
Who benefits from LVRSys®?
This technology is ideal for companies and institutions that require a stable and efficient power supply, including:
Energy providers
Industrial and manufacturing companies (e.g., mining, production, petrochemicals)
IT and data centers
Airports and critical infrastructure in general
Renewable energy projects
Commerce, trade, and service sectors
A sustainable solution for Africa’s energy future
The increasing integration of renewable energy in South Africa and the growing challenges of grid stability require innovative solutions. The LVRSys® enables the efficient integration of renewable energy sources and contributes to the decarbonization of the energy sector.
Through the RES program, A. Eberle GmbH & Co. KG was able to present its grid stabilization solution to a wide audience and establish new partnerships in Southern Africa. The Deutsche Energie-Agentur (dena) actively supported the partner company in its sustainable market entry through networking as well as information and knowledge transfer.
Ceremonial inauguration with industry experts
At the official inauguration on March 7, 2025, leading industry experts emphasized the relevance of such innovative technologies for the future of energy supply in South Africa. Prominent guests included Andreas Peschke, the German Ambassador to South Africa, the host of the event, Sabine Dall’Omo, CEO of Siemens Sub-Saharan Africa, as well as Prof. Ephraim Nhlanhla Mbuli from the University of South Africa (UNISA).
The managing directors of A. Eberle Africa showcased the capabilities of the LVRSys®. A guided tour through the Siemens Micro Grid demonstrated how the LVRSys® interacts with other innovative Siemens technologies.
With the RES programme, the German Energy Solutions Initiative of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Action (BMWK) supports German companies in the renewable energy and energy efficiency sectors enter new markets. Within the framework of the programme, reference plants are installed and marketed with the support of the German Energy Agency (dena). Information and training activities help ensure a sustainable market entry and demonstrate the quality of climate-friendly technologies made in Germany.
