Nanchang Zhongsen Hunggu Yipin Passivhouse Kindergarden

The Honggu Yipin Passive House Kindergarden is part of a large residential project focusing on the enhancement of sustainable living spaces. Most of the building was designed in line with the passive house concept. The roof serves as playground and with visible solar panels also teaches the kids about sustainable energy production. Saddle roof elements offer additional indoor playground and provide shading in summer.

In view of the climatic challenges caused by both high temperatures and high humidity in the Nanchang region, the project integrated several passive energy-saving technologies such as the use of heat recovery, quality insulation, airtight construction and renewable energy systems. The waterproof roof and insulation by VEDAG GmbH, the installed full heat recovery exchanger from Klingenburg GmbH and the ventilation system of Ziehl-Abegg AG greatly improved the energy efficiency performance. After energy calculation of DeST (Designer’s Simulation Toolkit) software, the heating, cooling and lighting energy of the building is estimated to be 60.03% less than that of a reference building which meets the Chinese《Public Building Energy Efficiency Design Standards》GB50189-2015. The air-tightness test result of N50≤ 0.3 /h, an average window-U-value (installation thermal bridge included) of 0.89 W/(m²K), an average heating demand of 5 kWh/(m²a) and a cooling and dehumidification demand of 31 kWh/(m²a) illustrate how energy efficiency technologies can contribute to reach higher standards.

In order to meet the high quality requirements of passive house buildings, an effective construction quality system had been established. German experts of WFP Architekten – Frey Group developed a training plan for construction personnel in accordance with the quality requirements. This also involved constant quality inspections by exchanging data with experts in Germany following the progress of the construction works.

About the Energy Efficiency Award

The Energy Efficiency Award 2020 – East-China was organized by the German Industry & Commerce Greater China in Shanghai (AHK Greater China Shanghai) in September 2020.

In order to illustrate the successful implementation of German technologies, products, and services in construction projects in East China, five examples were awarded and presented to a broad public audience. The selected reference projects show innovative German energy efficiency technologies, e.g. in the field of isolation, heating, and heat recovery, as well as the use of planning, architecture, and engineering services from Germany. All projects are results of fruitful cooperation between German companies or institutions and their Chinese partners.

On September 16th, 2020, the awarded projects have been published with videos and presentations of the project representatives at a hybrid event in the office of the AHK Shanghai and broadcasted worldwide through the internet.

The Energy Efficiency Awards are part of the German Energy Solutions Initiative of the German Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy to recognise the positive impact German energy efficiency technologies have on China’s efforts to become more energy efficient.
