Flagship PDP project: German solar for Kenyan roses farm
A German solar technology leasing company provides carbon-neutral energy for the flower farm Simbi Roses in Kenya. The 150 kWp solar power system, which was implementeded by ecoligo GmbH in partnership with the local EPC company Technolectric, will save up to 144 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year. The partners came together within the framework of the Project Development Programme (PDP)of the German Energy Solutions Initiative. Sector-studies and flower workshops conducted by the PDP laid the foundation for a successful project implementation.
An off-grid 360 kWp photovoltaic system made by a German renewable energy company using German inverters and solar panels has been installed in a Swiss-owned fruit farm in Ghana, HPW Fresh & Dry Ltd. The country’s C&I sector is thriving, but many businesses still rely on back-up and complementary energy systems. The local solar EPC directly benefited from the German Training Week, which focuses on topics of project development in the field of solar projects.
Scientists from the Centre for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research (ZSW) in Baden-Württemberg hope to optimise the design of lithium batteries and bring production to the heart of Europe. Their goal is to increase the number of EVs on the road by 2030 in line with government targets.
Restrictions on noise emissions have so far hindered the expansion of wind farms inland, but a start-up from southern Germany hopes to change all that. Their 3D-serrated rotor blades and back-flaps for wind turbines could provide a much-needed boost to the inland wind power industry, by reducing noise levels while increasing yield.
