Project Development Programme (PDP ) Webinar Kenya : Highlights of the new Energy Law
Introduction

The Energy Bill in Kenya was enacted into law in March 2019 by the President of Kenya, making it officially the ultimate governing law for the energy sector in Kenya. Prior to this, the law governing the energy sector was enshrined in the Energy Act of 2006 which was due to be updated due to the many developments in the sector. The revised energy bill has suffered delays and was finalized in 2017 but was finally approved by parliament, senate and accented by the President on 12 March 2019. With the new Energy Act 2019, provisions for renewable energies including net metering and wheeling are provided. It is envisioned that the new Energy Act may open the Commercial and Industrial solar market due to these provisions. The webinar will delve deeper into content and impact of the new Energy Act 2019. The goal of the webinar is to shed light on the content of the new Energy Act.
