Entering the photovoltaic (PV) sector or expanding installations is particularly attractive for industry and commerce. However, it is often difficult for potential users of solar energy to imagine how concretely PV projects can be implemented and how great their benefits are. The reference project trips of the Project Development Programme (PDP) of the German Energy Solutions Initiative provides answers: they focus on practical applications using concrete examples. During the three-day events, German companies from the photovoltaic sector present selected projects on site together with their customers. The concrete applications reflect the general conditions in the respective regions. During the visits, participants can get an idea of solar power technologies in use, learn about the range of services offered by German suppliers, and find out how about the benefits for users. In accompanying information events and networking workshops, frameworks and market conditions are discussed. Participants present their expertise or project plans. The reference project trips offer the opportunity for contact between providers of solar technology and services from Germany and potential clients.

Solid foundation for investment decisions

Photovoltaics makes companies more independent of often expensive and unreliable grid electricity, saves costs, contributes to climate protection, and thereby also improves the relations with customers in industrialised countries. Companies planning investments in PV systems receive a solid basis for decision-making through the reference project trips of the Project Development Programme. They can learn from the practical experience of users for their own project planning. They experience first-hand about the potential of current solar technology "made in Germany" and receive information about financing options and services. They have the opportunity to establish contacts with leading German specialist companies, present their project plans and find the best partners for implementing their projects.

Attractive partners and programmes

The Project Development Programme is organising three reference project trips in the second half of 2022 on the topic of solar energy with a focus on self-consumption systems. The target countries are Botswana and Zambia, Bangladesh as well as Jordan and Lebanon.

The agenda of all reference project trips includes:

  • Site visits to projects realized by German companies and local partners: Representatives of local industrial companies get to know examples of services and products "made in Germany" and benefit from the experience of plant operators.

  • Networking workshop: The focus is on the framework conditions for projects in the target country, viable business models, project opportunities for industrial customers and services provided by German suppliers.

  • Individual follow-up meetings: Local interested parties have the opportunity to present their potential projects to German solar companies. There is an opportunity for individual discussions between potential clients and contractors.
